Maybe Poem by Dom Jho

Maybe

Maybe if I send a smile,
Flattering and friendly,
They won't see all the flaws,
All the shame, all the ugly.

Maybe if I create distance,
Make it hard to see,
They won't stare too hard,
Or into my soul, see.

Maybe if I act
As if I'm not the one to care,
Like the world doesn't bother me,
When it hurts too much to share.

Maybe if I say,
It's really not that good,
They won't criticize too harshly,
Maybe just see me as misunderstood.

Maybe if I cover,
With clothes and hands and boldness,
They won't notice the extra,
The true unsightliness.
