I am learning meditation,
to calm body, breath and mind;
I sit in quiet contemplation,
to seek peace that's hard to find.
Eyes both closed, I deeply breathe,
for sweet serenity I strive;
Thoughts begin to slowly wreathe,
All my senses come alive.
I hear sparrows wings that flutter by,
Soft footfalls on the velvet turf;
A brand newborn baby's lusty cry,
the almost breaking, crashing surf.
I smell homemade scents of Sunday,
someone's baking coconut pie...
Briny breaths of ocean spray,
almost reach the perfumed sky.
I feel the marble floor beneath,
Cool and pleasant to my feet;
Woodsmoke swirls in a gentle wreath,
almost reach my windowseat.
And as I deeply breathe in calm,
I sense a presence by my side;
Tingles on my open palm,
that no more want to safely hide.
In sweet serenity, perfect peace,
my knowing heart leaps up to see;
Eyes fly open in smiling release,
to see you smiling back at me.
