Memories Poem by courtney metcalf

Memories

Books sometimes take me back to memories of old times
The ones that never cease to simmer, in the back of my mind
Tears travel down my cheek
As I begin to remember everything
The feelings that my heart contained
The excitement of my joy, or the screams of my pain
Planting potatoes in the garden beside my
grandmother
Dirty fingernails and the sound of the pool running behind us, in the middle of a scorching summer
Running and jumping into my dad's arms
After not seeing him all the years he was gone
Telling my crying little brother and sister that it will be okay
That we will see our dad outside of bars again one day
The NeverEnding bond that we will always
share
Tied together from the absence of our parents never being there
