Mick Kelleher Poem by Francis Duggan

Mick Kelleher

He's never been found wanting when put to the test
At laying pipes Mick Kelleher is Victoria's best
The drainage contractors of his value do know
He makes some good pipe layers seem rather slow.

But more to life than hard work when all is said and done
And Mick Kelleher a character in more ways than one
A night with his mates at the pub he enjoy
And he still talks of Millstreet where he lived as a boy.

Well into his fifties and he is not slowing
When the going gets tough the tough always get going
A marvellous pipe layer a high wage he command
And his services are very much in demand.

He hails from the countryside by Clara Hill
And he is ageing far south of the old Glasheen rill
Victoria's best pipe layer most would agree
And characters like him live in memory.
