Mom's Lovely Day Poem by Brent Henry

Mom's Lovely Day

There she was again
In their living room
A woman racked with pain and shivering
Impending doom Clench your teeth in rage
That knot in your chest
It hurts to see the selfish and the poor
Such hopelessness So much work to do
Neck is hurting you
You have to drag your body to do another thing
Not fair, but true I just want to quit
Told myself the lie
Frustration runs my life and keeps on closing in
I want to cry Stress is eating me
No one understands
I lie awake in bed and struggle to forget
Or make funeral plans
