Monster Poem by John McClay

Monster

There is a monster inside of me.
It threatens to overcome my soul -
To erase my existance from this world.

But I fight it.

I close my eyes and become consumed-
Consumed in the darkness this monster creates,
Encompassed by its torment

But I can beat it.

Through this war,
Past the turmoil,
There is light.

I can destroy it.

The light so faintly shining though,
But never completely gone.
Can you see it?

I will not faulter.

There is a monster inside of me, and
Though it may be hard to beat,
It is not immortal.

I will win.
