Monster In The Mirror Poem by Madelene Calalo

Monster In The Mirror

I stood in front of the mirror
Then I realized two things:
That I was staring at a stranger
And that stranger looked just like me.

I made a face which she just returned
It was annoying so I tried to slap her.

But as I raised my hand
She raised hers too.
As if threatening me
That she’ll do something worse.

Scared as I am, I turned away.
Looked back at her and saw her face.

Fear? ...

Worry?

Terror?

Is that what you call it?
Amazed as I was,
It was written all over her.

Feeling victorious of frightening the tyrant
I laughed out loud and felt magnificent.

But then I caught her
Laughing back at me.
I was annoyed once more
For her laugh was full of mockery.

Crying out loud of irritation
I ran to my mother swiftly

Said there was a monster in the mirror,
And the monster looked just like me.
