Monsters Poem by Lupita Hernan

Monsters

It isn’t you that I run from
Although it is you that I fear
See - I see a sea of monsters
Awaiting to engulf
Gut with their heavy claws
Snickering as they smell my panic
I wont let them
They’re rackety limbs and graying hair
They will lose because they have been lost
It is the past I run from
And it’s them that I run from
Leaving you, leaving them, leaving it all
