More Than Lust Poem by Alex Fairbairn

More Than Lust

How it is possible I cannot grip
That I see you by chance on a trip
But then even though you live quite far away
I saw you again just today
You don’t even know where I live
And yet it was you I’m positive

From the moment I saw your silhouette on the horizon
It was only you I could keep my eyes on
You were wearing that coat
It was love’s subtle gloat
From you I was kept at bay
By a subconscious moat in my way

The feeling I got hasn’t yet gone away
I long for an opportunity just to say
My feelings that had started to stagnate
You have made them reactivate
But, who was that by your side?
I can’t describe the hurt to my pride

I had never shaken with excitement
I guess love is my indictment
If I never see you again
I can move on then
But just so you know
This must have been so
much more than lust.
