My Beloved Poem by Erica Brett

My Beloved

I am a man of ego,
I worship only the god in me.
I kneel before no other,
For I am my own majesty.

I'll not pray with the preacher,
I am no shepherd's sheep.
He may have died to save my soul,
But over his bones I will not weep.

I live to grant my wishes,
I'll ask no God to part my sea.
I do not believe in miracles,
Unless the miracle came from me.

I do not exist to serve another,
For no man would I touch the knife.
I love only myself and one other -
My selfish, beautiful life.
