My Best Friend Poem by Chris Jibero

My Best Friend

One friend among all
I have
One friend best of all
One friend so sure
One friend so true
One friend so sweet
One friend so dear
Ever faithful
Ever loyal
Ever caring
Ever providing
Ever leading
Ever ordering
My footsteps all his

On my mountain peak
There he is
In my valley of dry bones
There also he is
When cast into a raging sea
Unto the belly of a fish
He makes me a luxury bed
In my wilderness
When unfriendly friends
Withdraw their blanket of love
Standing aloof to pelt me
With taunts and jeers
He shields and drapes me with care
Day and night
His glory ever present, sufficient
And great
When pits are concealed
To swallow me without warning
On my way of progress
He makes his shoulder my jet
Of escape and ascent

My friend so dear
Attentive and available
Where no way exists
He makes one so good
Like parting the Red Sea
Where I have no water to drink
He digs a borehole for me
As for Hagar and Ishmael
When I am hungry
He bakes me inexhaustible bread
As for the Hebrews in their forty
Years journey to a land promised
Always there in thick and thin
Ever accessible
And ever reliable

My sole confidant
My joy
My way
My truth
My life
My love
That endures forever
A worthy friend you are
Paying with your life the debt
I owed death
And presenting to me on a platter
Of platinum everlasting life so dear
What a wonderful friend I have in Jesus Christ!
