My Dear Child Poem by Shyn Joseph

My Dear Child

I may have sent your mom back home so that she could get a good treatment;
I wasn't beside her the time when she wanted a little more support;
I may have been far away when you just came out to this little world of ours;
But I just wanted you to know that I have been eagerly waiting "DADDYS GIRL".

Dear Child,
I may not have held you in my arms,
I may not have gazed on your face,
I couldn't yet held your little hand,
And so rub your chubby cheeks.
Know,
That was the time you fought yourself in hospital,
Inside the warmers and incubators,
Daddy and mommy are so sorry that we couldn't do anything but just pray,
And we prayed to the heart to cuddle you when you come out.

And yet,
I couldn't read the bedtime stories for you,
Keep you in my shoulders and play the old fashioned "salt bag",
Couldn't awed while seeing you sleep,
And kiss your cheeks before bedtime.
Dear Iza,
You have to know this one day,
These were the dreams I dreamed daily when I was away!
And though we haven't just yet met
I already love you to the moon and back.
