My Death And Me Poem by Alefya Najmi

My Death And Me

I know my days are numbered,
And every breath that I take,
Is accountable to God above,
That death is lurking around the corner,
And yet I fail to wake.

It is up to me whether to greet death,
In the shadows of the darkness,
Knowing that my meeting the dust wouldn’t affect the world,
Because I had lived my life as a complete stranger
What did I accomplish?
Nothing but empty dreams,
And shallow ideals,
Which insults my being a superior creation.

Or accept death as a relief,
From the oppression.
Who is to be blamed?
For this suppression.
The agony that I faced throughout my living memories,
The society, my family, my friends,
Or trusted strangers?
The answer lies within me.
I am the one who didn’t stand.
Where was my courage!
The boldness that I always boasted.
What did my educated mind did for me?
Nothing but suffer in silence.
So be it then,
Death for me is a welcome guest.

Or death could be the light at the end of the tunnel,
The beginning of a new journey,
Birth was marked with laughter and cheers,
But death had happy tears,
And sorrow of knowing that a lot more could have been done,
If the loaned life was taken a bit later.

I knew that there was a purpose behind my existence,
Acknowledging it only didn’t really make the difference,
But because of the accomplished mission,
And fulfillment of that purpose,
I continue to live even after,
The veil of life has been lifted.
What more can a mortal ask for,
But to be remembered by this ever-changing world.
