My Excuse Poem by Rhiley Anne Vincent

My Excuse

Rating: 5.0

What does it matter?
Why can’t I see?
What is the difference,
That sep’rates you and me?

Do I avoid you?
Or do I lie?
It’s ‘cause I like you,
It’s ‘cause I’m shy.

I want to see your face,
I want to hear your voice.
Will I be able to?
Do I have a choice?

Do you want to see me?
Do you like me back?
I can’t read your expression,
I can’t keep track.

Around us our family mingles.
Your kind and my kind go together well.
It seems you don’t like yours,
It’s not hard to tell.

I’ve seen you a few times,
Each time it’s worse.
I can’t control myself,
It’s like a curse.

I go into shock.
I try not to look.
My tongue ties a knot,
I wish it were a fluke.

The girls flutter round you,
Like bees drawn to honey.
Of course I’m not with them,
I hide, even if it’s sunny.

Bare with me please.
I’ll come out of my shell.
You won’t be sorry.
It’s soon, I can tell.
