My Eyes Are Black Poem by Bethaney Walters

My Eyes Are Black

My eyes are black
No I'm not being racist
My eyes are black
Listen to me when I say this

My eyes are black, dark and dingy
Maybe it’s all this pain
That is within me

My eyes are black
Tell me what you see
Do they tell my story?
Do they say what’s happened to me?

The struggles I’ve fought
With shame and despair
The loneliness and emptiness
I feel in the air

My eyes are black, dark and deep
Maybe it’s all the secrets
I'm forced to keep

My eyes are black
But they are passionate and true
My eyes are black
Don’t let them scare you

My eyes are black
But my life isn’t so
My eyes are black
But boy do they glow.
