My Illusion Poem by lola cesini

My Illusion

I like me a whole lot
There’s no one on this earth
That likes me more than I like myself
At this time in my life
I like you better than I like me
If you should not like me
It does not make me like myself less
Nor does it make me like you less
It just means we are looking at things
From a different point of view
Neither is wrong nor right
Just different……..
Years go by
And one day
I wake up
To look in the mirror
And not recognize
The person staring back
It’s like no one
I ever knew or liked
Youth is gone
The eyes I see
Are old and tired with no life
The shoulders stoop
The body shows a lack of exercise
But mostly lack of care
When did I like me best change
To like me least
Was it because of a
Different point of view
I could then accept
But later made me see
A special me I tried
So very hard not to be
To know the fact
That no illusion can
Make a life less lonely
When you are
Your one and only
