My Ingredients Poem by Kelvin Rush

My Ingredients

A tablespoon of faeces
A pinch of fear and pain
A selection of unknown species
A handful of guilt and shame

A sprinkle of mass hysteria
A cupful of lies and regret
A helping of deadly diphtheria
A pill to help me forget

A poem from a world war veteran
A song from a simple mind
A speech from a corrupt politician
A threat from an unknown kind

A dream of a bloody vacation
A death of a relative or friend
A fight for another revolution
A violent and mysterious end

A kiss from dear old Grandad
A picture from a family do
A dress from a teenage party
A letter saying God Bless You

A crush on a summer vacation
A weekend on a smelly farm
One thing of which I am certain
My ingredients are full of self-harm
