My Love Poem by Edward Wall

My Love

Rating: 5.0

I sit and watch my love, imprisoned in her mind,
Her eyes, the only window in her lonely cell,
Show me her longing to be again
As once we were, kindred souls, in our private world.

She watches me, unable to speak her thoughts,
As I, despairing of my puny efforts,
Strive to break a barrier too strong to breach,
And inwardly, with deep frustration, weep.

Tenderly I touch her brow, willing my fingers
To transmit brain-healing power;
To re-arrange and heal disordered cells;
A simple task for God but not for mortal me.

I feel that He who watches over all,
Is too concerned with those who have less need,
To spare a glance at she who more deserves,
And heeds not the one who cannot plead.

Still, I sit and watch my love
Slowly sinking in a foggy thought-less sea,
Never again to share with me a moment of bliss,
Or know the meaning of a deep felt kiss.

To live in a world without my love,
Cannot be right cannot be just.
I am as nothing without her mindful presence,
And I care not for a loveless life.

So fades my love, and so fade I;
Our only hope, a future time,
When, if all belief be but true,
We will meet and start our life anew.

Dedicated to my late wife, Gavrelle.
