All of my life
You've watched over me
Before I was born
You took care of my needs
As I sucked my thumb
And learned to read
You were right there
Right beside me
When I scraped my knee
You washed it and told me
That "Jesus will heal it"
And that he'll always protect me
When I'm upset or disappointed
Or just feeling down
You're there to lift my spirits
You're always around
As time goes on
There's more kids to care for
And often you need my help
And I don't need yours
Teaching, reading
Washing, and babysitting
Those are all my jobs now
My work means so much to you
And in the evening
When they're all asleep
(Or supposed to be)
I can come sit next to you
And drink in the quiet peace
You're my guardian
A good listener, too
And when I'm in trouble
That's where you'll be
You're something so special
You're a rock, firm and strong
And if there are cracks
They won't grow into fissures
You're the family lover
A kisser, a hugger
You're all of these things
And you're my mother
