My Mother's Daughter Poem by Victor Okechukwu Anyaegbuna

My Mother's Daughter

She is my mother's daughter
and I do not dispute it
‘cos my mother
was a virtuous woman
She lived and died virtuous.

She is not my sister
‘cos she denied it
over the cold, frozen
and lifeless body
of my loving mother.

Mortal genes failed
where spiritual DNA's lied
on altars of carnal deceit
that decorated temples
flames of euphoria fanned
to bribe the spirit of God
and await judgment.
