My One Poem by Elizabeth Jacqueline Mpanga

My One

I thought I had seen it all,
Until you came from nowhere
A familiar face yet a stranger
A heart so close yet unknown
Your loud obnoxious laugh made my heart melt
I saw you but my heart felt you first
And to think I almost never showed up
You showed me affection and I remembered…….
I remembered how to love
You touched my hands and I remembered how to feel
Just sitting next to you makes my day seem so much brighter
Every single day I spend getting to know you,
Is like a treasure chest with many secret compartments
Your kiss makes me feel at home
I look forward to your hugs and our chats
I long to get to know you more with each day that passes
Deep down I can't help but be selfish….
I wish I could keep you locked up in my heart….
And I laugh often about how crazy the thought is,
But in all truth and honesty… you are my one and I will always carry you with me.
