My Reply To Sonnet 24 Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

My Reply To Sonnet 24

Rating: 3.5

Your eyes indeed have measured me and mapped
With drafter's skill the outline of my form
Your gentle sentiments like sculptor's hands at craft
Have softened unworked clay and made it warm.

You say my eyes act like the sun at dawn and dusk
Penetrating dark interiors while reflecting gold
Enlightening your soul to feelings hid within its crumbling husk
While hiding your love's true hues from voyeurs bold.

If my gaze bores windows through your ribs to let in light
And honey drips from opened combs upon the waiting page
The verses formed from such a heart set free from dark and endless night
Will be gathered up and kept like treasures of the age

In which a virgin heart was met by one whose fame still grows
But who rules her still timid suitor with a solar glow.
