My Room Poem by Donna Ialongo

My Room

9x12 and steeped in the olives
of a holy bible is the
nursery of said 'poet'

cummings leans idly on Dickenson
while Walt churns about
it.

gooey-eyed monique - cat buddy -
handles love affairs and
hate spasms and chokes
out candles, cringing
about my thumb sucking.

the rabbit
is drooling dumb, but the
rest of us are just
naive.

the only other animated
cartoon in the den is Kiki -
much too lollipop wise for me.
wind around here is
always heaving and
smothering itself.

forgetting about holding
hands with the moon
and nails clawing in dirt
for reality which doesn't
even taste decent.

this morning i swept ambition
under a board in the crooked
corner. my wax and plastic
hopings are crawling
the walls lately. summer
is here. it's stuffy.

i think this place is
too
small for my dreams.
I'll move to the sun.

tomorrow
