In July 1991, at age 42
Started my second career.
Federal Employee - Civil Service
Assigned File Clerk
Veterans Administration
Salt Lake City, Utah.
Over 30,000 files
Hundreds of 5 drawer file cabinets.
Each day,
Sorting and sequencing
Incoming mail.
Pulling files
And attaching mail.
My daily dread -
Paper Cuts,
One to two every week.
Working closely,
With co-workers and other agencies
In providing Veteran Care.
Retired 30 June 2009 at age 62.
18 years in the file bank.
Proud to have served my fellow Veterans
And their families.
Just added these pictures. Pictured with me is Mr Douglas Wadsworth, Director, VA Regional Office, Salt Lake City, Utah. He served as the director during my entire time with the Veteran's Administration. We were a " Family Operation" during his reign.
Serving for fellow veterans you have gained memories and beautifully penned this carrier memories poem. Thank you very much for sharing this.10
Kumarmani, Yes, it was a very rewarding job! ! Thank you for your comment! !
If you started there at age 42 and retired at age 62, doesn't that make 20 years instead of 18? What am I missing? Am I just not awake yet? My favorite line: My daily dread (as opposed to my daily bread) .
Kim, I started in late June or early July, just a couple weeks away from my 43rd birthday. Then I retired a month short of my 62nd birthday.. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday for CHESS..

I would like to translate this poem
Part serious, part humorous-'hundreds of 5 drawer cabinets', '18 years in the file bank'. Quite a bureaucracy, but one which served combat veterans very well and most necessary.
