My Son What Have You Done Poem by Joe Hopfer

My Son What Have You Done

Rating: 5.0

If only your mother and I had known on that fateful day,
you were struggling with life and its painful ways

You took your own life feeling you had nothing to gain,
no happiness, no future, nothing but pain

Your heart was broken by someone you loved,
your pain is now gone as you watch us from above

The passion you had for singing was so grand,
you had so much pain that we just can't understand

The pain you felt in your heart that tragic day,
we pray that nobody else will ever again feel that way

We ask for answers to many questions we have,
please give us some signs so we can again laugh

I know your friends wish they could still talk with you,
so you could help them just like you use to do

If you had only shared your pain as others did with you,
you would still be among us to help you through

The sadness and hopeless feeling from your broken heart,
we would be holding you close instead of being a part

We share our grief with others to help the pain in our own hearts,
knowing someday that a new beginning will start

It started once before when you were born on Thanksgiving day,
you touched so many people in various special ways

You always put others problems before your very own,
it was always like that let the truth be known

You grew up faster than your mother and I could see,
starting to become the man that God meant for you to be

In the morning I rise and yell up the stairs,
time to get up champ, nothing but silent dead air

I go in your bedroom with heart broken fear,
knowing your voice I will no longer hear

The words that always made me so glad,
came out of your mouth 'I Love You Dad'

Those precious words like time moving forward,
in my head, I now only hear them over and over

February 23,2010 that grey day that lives in my heart,
I had no idea that we would forever be a part

Whatever went wrong on your heart broken day,
I struggle to find answers and my new way,

In life without my precious little boy,
who brightened my world and gave me so much joy

That precious little boy who was everything to me,
I will never forget how you use to be

You were so happy and always wanted to play,
how I long for when life, will again, be that way.....
