My Wallet Poem by Karl Newton

My Wallet

To look inside my wallet
There is two distinct objects
One a bank note
And
One an aged old letter

The bank note is a £20
And written along the white trim at the bottom
Is a hand written note saying
"This note came with a stroke of luck, and now luck may it bring to you"

The aged old letter is from a man's name I knew
The name of my Grandfather
And this son was addressed to his son
From the year 1941
A note quite short
To his son yet unborn
Asking him to look after his Mother
Should he not return
From the war
