Mystery Creature

Rating: 5.0

Slightly smaller than a sparrow
Probably slower than an arrow
Insects not usual alimentation
North America is its habitation
Usually found in groups of many
Sometimes it seems there aren't any

They do not move at night
Rely on sound and sight
I cannot tell you too much more
Some things are better left unsaid
There should be plenty here for sure
I've seen them in my flowerbed
So are they found in Ecuador?

Note: The creature in the picture is not related to the creature in the poem.

Update: 02 November 2016
Nobody solved the contest during the month of October, so now it becomes the November 2016 Contest. It CAN be solved!

Update: 07 December 2016
Jim Franckum solved the mystery creature in late November. I don't remember the exact date. Jim noticed that this is really an acrostic poem, and that the first letter of each line spells out SPINUS TRISTIS, which is the scientific name for the American Goldfinch.

Thanks, Rebecca. Your enthusiasm is a little over the top (as usual) , but it always makes me smile.
