Mythic Proportions Poem by moon batchelder

Mythic Proportions

Rating: 5.0

i'm better off a myth to them;
misunderstood, unknown.
a reference point or allegory,
a story that they've grown
to either love or not believe at all,
a tall-tale or a legend,
a fable or a parable of goddesses
and demons.

it's better that they never know
what life has been for me.
it'd only scare them anyway,
if they could dare believe,
the magick i have seen, the mysteries
i comprehend.
it's better they think me insane,
they'd never understand.

far better ignorance remain
at least where i'm concerned.
i wouldn't want to force the test
before the lesson's learned.
with so much they just can't imagine,
how will they discover me.
tho i exist, as part of them,
in continuity.

and so i'm better off a myth.
honored, maybe loathed.
seen but never quite believed in;
like a faerie tale or ghost,
or like the monster in the closet,
a stranger from the land of 'queer'.
but never as a revelation.
and never, ever as a mirror!

To be a myth is to be immortal. Great poem. Lots of depth here.
