Navajo Code Talkers Poem by Ima Ryma

Navajo Code Talkers

Rating: 4.0

The Marines during World War II
Enlisted help from Navajo.
Hundreds of us were asked to do
Coded words to outsmart the foe.
Our own language was the code
With origin and use unique.
One of the real successes showed
With two days round the clock code speak.
The Iwo Jima battle scenes
Were able to be turned from loss
To then be won by the Marines.
The needed intel got across.

My Navajo comrades and I
Used native tongue for freedom's cry.
