Nelson Mandela - Gandhi Of South Africa Poem by Bhaskaranand Jha Bhaskar

Nelson Mandela - Gandhi Of South Africa

He had black skin to look at
But white soul beneath
Glowing in darkness of the world
With whiteness of his good deeds,
Love, compassion and selfless service,
A pure, true and great soul
All committed and devoted to humanity!

His was a strong voice
For the black poor people
Long lacerated in the white corridor
Due to their inhumane practices
Of so-called racial distinction;
An anti-apartheid hero
He dethroned the apartheid rule
Under the blackness of which
Humanity was bleeding
Both in and around
Amid heart-rending woes and cries
Tearing the vast firmament,
For a compassionate look at their plight!

And he stood alone
Against the might of the white
Walking on the road of freedom
For liberating the black
And their imprisoned soul
From the clutches of the white
To let them see the light of the day
As their human right
Heralding an era of social equality.

The black Gandhi of South Africa
Following the footprints of Gandhi of India
Was a true harbinger of humanity
Who restored the dignified freedom
And inculcated a deep sense of equality
In the black and the depressed classes
Of South Africa and also those of the world!
