New Beginning Poem by Qwanza Bentinck

New Beginning

The day is finally here.
The day I have anticipated all my life
Who would have thought we would have made it,
Made it thus far in our journey of love.

I inhaled and exhaled incoherently,
As i heard the march began to play.
My father, the main man in my life,
Looked down at me with joy, a little sorrow
But no regrets in his big, bright, brown eyes.

He held my hands tightly as we approached the grand opening.
As we got closer I looked at the door
And said to myself 'this is it! '
For I knew beyond that door my new life begins.
It begins with the one I love.

When we entered the grand opening
I could not help but to stare at the man
Waiting at the end of the aisle for me.
His eyes danced with joy and love,
As they pierced into mine.
I could not help it, but to cry.
For joy have overwhelm me

My father handed me over to the one i will become one with.
He held my hands and smiled at me,
Whispering, 'I Love You'
We exchanged vows and solemnly swore before God
To love each other till death do us part.
Our vows were sealed with a kiss
And the announcement of the new Mister and Mistress.

I knew to myself this was a new beginning
Which meant new blessings, new favors,
New challenges, new consequences, a new journey all together
And I am prepared to travel this journey with the one I love!
