New Born Poem by Sumali Nagarajan

New Born

When I was in my mother's womb
I was warm and contented
Sleeping at will
And kicking when playful

I neither knew
Nor least bit cared
Of the day I will be born
And what lay ahead

Then the special day came
When I was delivered
A round of applause was heard
Amongst the spectators

My mother looked in my eyes
With a feeling she still can't describe
I just gazed back at her
I knew her, alright

Then someone picked me up
And pressed me against his cheek n chin
I later came to know
It was my dad's face n his happy grin.
