I Walked Alone In The Garden Poem by Sumali Nagarajan

I Walked Alone In The Garden

Rating: 3.5

I walked alone in the garden
In a reticent and pensive mood
Kinds of foliage grew around me
But plenty on my mind to brood.

A veritable collection of greenery
Failed to amuse but managed to amaze me
I continued my stroll, gazing around
Gardeners toil, where plants abound.

I came upon a bunch of entangled roots
Adventitious or aerial, I tried to remember
Or was it branches, vines, growing in profuse
All in all, a convoluted affair!

I paused to ponder, my thoughts baffled
Tortuous and tangled, it looked almost dead
Thence my gaze fell upon this
Newly sprouted shoot, green and fresh.

It grew from these branches
The contrast caught my admiration
The promise of new life, better times
Lifting my mood, spurring my imagination.

A promenade, observations, two contrasting images, and metaphorically representing two different states of mind - hope and hopelessness - a very well crafted poem Sumali.. Thank you for sharing..
