Nice Guy Poem by Leonard McGee

Nice Guy

Do you know the true
pain of failure, or the
humiliation of coming
up short after you put
your heart on the line

Have you seen the bus
at the light ran as fast
as you could, waving
your hands, yelling, and
knocking people down
just to have the driver
to look at you, and
pull off anyway

Have you ever studied
all week for a test and
still got an F, told the
truth and still got your
butt tore up, or waited
in line for an hour just
to be the first one they
tell We’re Sold Out

If so maybe you know
the tolls of forgiving and
forgetting, never turning
your back, never giving up,
or always putting yourself last
Maybe you know what it is
to be a Nice Guy
