Nigerian Child Poem by ABUBAKAR ABBA SANUSI

Nigerian Child

With my eyes fixed on the horizon

Looking for the hope non existent

I cried and called my leaders

But none heeded

I want to be in school
To learn, to love and to be loved

Do I have a future?

Is it a crime to be a Nigeria child?

What wrong did I do?
Am I cursed?

I want to have toys
And play with the boys
And shy away from the girls

I want to have the basics of life!
I want to have a life

A life...

Life...
