Nightmares In The Day Poem by Mariam de Haan

Nightmares In The Day

The more her mind wanders
The more she cries.
Thinking of an imaginary future,
That's built on lies.

Come with me and follow,
We'll take the path of our shadows
Wherever it'll lead us, we will go
Through mountain high and valley low.
Trudge through mud, sand and snow

Again the mind reminds her
That between them there is a barrier.
One she can't cross over,
One where only Allah has power.
But still the heart does flutter
Insisting only their prayers differ.

Maybe the solution is to let go of reason.
Forget who she is and where she is from.

Or maybe the solution is to stab the heart.
Then it would over
The emotion would fade forever.

Another teardrop cuts the paper
Leaving a stain
Revealing the pain
Another scribble is written.
As the pen moves on
As her mind wonders
Another daydream turns into a nightmare.
