Nothing Without Light Poem by Michael Walker

Nothing Without Light

I see diamonds in the silver dew,
And emeralds in blades of glistening grass,
And clouds of ermine cloak the sky of blue,
Pure blue, joyous, crystal blue topaz.

I see rubies in the roses red,
And turquoise ripples in diaphanous seas,
Remembering everything that's e'er been said
In these, the centuries' vast treasuries.

I see in me simply another you,
As lovers live in their beloved's eyes,
Bedizened by soft, jeweled tears of dew,
And dying to themselves as warmth melts ice,

For when we see the world pass into night,
We realize there's nothing without light.
