O friend, I want to smile at you,
but you don’t look my way.
O friend, I want to say I care
but you just turn away.

I still remember that glorious moment,
the touch of your gentle hand on mine
I'm deep in thought, I’m motionless
i still remember that day, that time.

'T was late in the evening, dark at night
as I sat on the window -sill
I remembered your sweet and charming face
and I do remember it still.

Until that dreary day had dawned,
and made the time stand still
the worry that crept inside me was
defeated by your goodwill.

I knew you had the potential to
stand up for what was right
the courage, the strength, the stamina
the power to succeed in life.

And though we talk to each other still
the love and care has gone
your smile doesn't have the warmth it had
your eyes seem all forlorn

I don't know whether to me you've changed
or everyone has to face this
your pleasant face and dancing eyes
all conquered by anger and stress.

Without your shadow beside mine
I feel so unsafe I can't tell
without your jokes to make me laugh
even heaven seems like hell

But I satisfy myself with the
smile you pass each day
a friend you were. a friend you are
and a friend you'll stay

I reassure my self each day
that finally in the end
A day will come when you'll again
become a loving friend.

And though we don't spend time together
you mean so much to me
our friendship will be cherished through years
and cherished it will be.
