O World! One Wish For Thee! Poem by Udayan Chatterjee

O World! One Wish For Thee!

Every dawn a hopeful sun
Rises with a million hues,
Pronouncing a day begun
With newer hopes, newer news.

O Light! Where's the light?
Cry many a voice on earth!
O World! Thou hast many a fright,
Burning lives in thy hearth!

O Poverty! Disease, corruption and war
Have implored the darkness' rule
O World! thou hast many a scar
That throttles lives in an ampule.

O Nature! thou hath thy charms
In thy springs, lakes and mountain blues.
O thy animals and birds with their alarms!
And thy blooming buds in sensuous hues!

O Mankind! Thou gifted thy disgrace,
Paling the colours in nature's plumes.
O thou turned into the industrial race,
Polluting the air with toxic fumes.

O World! Thou need the true light,
Light that enlightens the darkened lives.
O Freedom! from the chains of fright,
From the blades of betraying knives.

O perched on this worldly stage,
I call to thee, O Humanity!
Let the light free from the cage,
Enliven the world with unity.

Let the new millenium bear the sight
Of a newer dawn holding the key,
May every life on this earth get light,
O World! One wish for thee!
