Ode 6 Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Ode 6

Rating: 5.0

For on that coral bank, turned gently old
Maturing gorgeous broods and may enfold
Then the recurring cadence orchid supreme new
Above freedom's jangled strains and so it grew

And may immortal love illumine more and more
One delves into the instinct's vast vein of ore
And if we marvel, how its findings bind
Posterity lives in the Centaur mind

Alas! that warrior withheld the pledge
Bard eternal, the word is as a ledge
I trace my own ancestry back through Pakistan
No longer is your posture wierd and new

Simón Bolívar spoke, and now hear the voice of Julliet
And a young girl proves sincerity through a leaflet
Take home these candies from ashes and from tears
They are the blossoms of our victorious years
