Ode To Debt Poem by A.K. Cola

Ode To Debt

Debt attains prominence
By hijacking the consciousness
Of the Absolute Mind
And placating it with
Reminders of fancy.

To preserve its legacy
Debt employs Soldiers of Fortune,
Fluent in script rehearsal
At ease through fashionable comforts:
Allowing blankets in the office,
Refrigerator stocked with sundries,
Dim lighting,
Constricted pupils,
A manager who insists they're referred to as
Pal,
Placing ice on the ear until it's numb enough
To withstand the barrage of firepower
Consistent with the debtor's battle cry.

But as age falls to dawn
The wager of death includes
Expiration…

Johannes de Silentio
Bargains to be draped in rubies
Once the onset of stone
Describes his flesh.

Mother Mary removes her womb
Via coat hanger.

Lights adorning the hallway leading to the bedroom
Blink like the screeching mouths of newborns
Pulled from their placenta…

Conversation imbues
Back & Forth revelry

"This is an attempt to collect a debt, and any information obtained will be used for that purpose."
"I've already given up my white-bread budget, instant coffee crystals, lint in my pocket and the appointment to get the mole on my shoulder screened for cancer. What more can I give? "

In that voice so perfectly affluent in flinty confession, she assures the caller something will work out or her ain't Abraham father to Isaac.
