Treasure Island

YURI DURAAN

(29 September 1970 / South Africa)

Oh the bliss, oh the pain!

Oh the bliss,
oh the pain!

I am swimming in this
ocean, kicking against
the tides but having
no effect
no choice
but to let the currents
take me
all my efforts to swim out
in vain...

Oh the bliss,
oh the pain!

Your voice in my mind
a tearing refrain
of what could be -
an incantation
a prophetic glimpse
into the future of
my doom,
yet also
my heart's gain...

Oh the bliss,
oh the pain!

Ek wou eers vra waarvan praat jy, maar dink ek verstaan. Ek hou van die ongewone formaat, maar steeds 'n duidelike patroon, selfs as jy net na die hele gedig kyk (sonder om te lees) sien mens steeds 'n prentjie - net soos die rym. (Report) Reply

Poem of the Day

poet Paul Laurence Dunbar

The mist has left the greening plain,
The dew-drops shine like fairy rain,
The coquette rose awakes again
Her lovely self adorning.

The Wind is hiding in the trees,
