Oh, The Cautious Heart Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Oh, The Cautious Heart

I searched for some
magic place,
a place of warmth,
a place of grace.
Come in, come in,
love beckoned me.
Come in, come in,
I'll shelter thee.

Not here! Not here!
cautioned my heart.
There is no magic,
give it more thought.

I laughed, danced,
I dined in splendor,
yet my heart whispered,
do not surrender,
keep searching for that
magic place,
that place of warmth,
that place of grace.

Long was the journey,
lonely the ride,
for that magic place
but my cautious heart
kept watch, kept watch
until you were by my side.

What peace I find and
my heart and I agree,
precious is our love
throughout eternity.
