Old Jimmy The Rhymer Poem by Francis Duggan

Old Jimmy The Rhymer

Gray haired and wrinkled face and showing the wear of time
Old Jimmy the Rhymer is still penning rhyme
Of how many thousand he has written he says he has lost count
By any standard quite a record amount
His friends at the local pub loves the poems he write
Some of his work to them he does read and recite
And always for him there's a loud hip hooray
Good on you there Jimmy for your poem of the day
Old Jimmy the rhymer is an amiable bloke
He does like his beer and he laughs at a joke
His ex wife Maud did leave him a decade ago
Who she is with now he does not care or know
She gave him an option give up drink and rhyming or live without me
With his answer to her the last of her he see.
