Old Memories Poem by Chukwu Emmanuel

Old Memories

Still remember those days,
When we were like jack and Jill,
Always together like a pack of wolves,
Spending most of our time at the river-bank,
With clay pots on our heads,
Struggling to help each other,
The time we spent together hunting grasshopper remained unforgotten memories,
That we might wish to experience again,
Indeed adulthood 'na scam',
Burying these memories behind us,
Like they never existed.

Old memories,
Always claiming Danfo-drivers,
With motorcycle tyre and bamboo cars,
On farm roads, playground and errand trips,
Singing sweet melodious songs during storytime,
Where are these memories? ,
Far beyond the land of restoration,
And vanishes by the struggle for greener-pasture.

Old memories,
When we played family roles,
Unknown that we were practicing what destiny holds for us tomorrow,
Gangstas and mafias we acted,
In uncomplicated buildings,
Praying that they never get completed,
Still remember the police and arm robbers role? ,
With fake bullets in our stick guns,
We fought and quarreled but never separated,
Like a pack of wolves,
We were bonded to one another,
Indeed childhood memories was fun
