The oldest love poem is said
To have been written by a bride,
Apparently soon to be wed
And be a queen at her king's side,
The Sumerian king, Shu-Sin,
Who ruled in 2000's B.C.
'Bridegroom' the poem does begin.
No where is said 'Your Majesty.'
The fact this poem did survive
In tablet form through so much time
Has kept the verse debate alive
Whether or not poems should rhyme.
For this bride, for better or worse,
She chose to write love in free verse?
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
