Omiyage Poem by Mark Trajano

Omiyage

The fragrance of Sampaguita filled the night
so slowly and calmy, things felt bright.
Not hidden in the dark, they look like fairies in white
giving a scent of comfort and delight.
Walking along the path, we see them dance
Along the wind giving us a rare chance.
Minutes and hours passed, we were like in a trance
Being drawn as we keep our glance.

The soothing moonlight gives off a breath of dream
As we go about life by the stream.
Reflection off the ocean of time made us want to swim
Towards uncertainties and challenges’ scheme.
We dare to go and face all that to be who we truly are-
Beyond the now we have expectedly exceeded par.
Just like above in the sky, we are one with the brightest star
Having us feel like as if we are singing in a choir.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I met with a friend of my friend's Japanese student. The student gave me 'omiyage' from Japan and I had nothing to give her then because all that has happened was spontaneous. Not knowing if I will get the chance to meet her again, I created this poem for her.
