On A Blossom-Covered Hill Poem by Emil Haugstrup

On A Blossom-Covered Hill

On a blossom-covered hill they spoke their vows.
He swore to love her for as long as time allows.
But the knight was needed by his King and Nation,
To defeat a fire-breathing abomination.

When a year had passed since the knight had left,
Disillusioned by grief, his bride leapt to her death.
When this news reached the warrior of light,
He found no rest for the rest of his nights.

The King, utilising the loss of a life,
Told him a story of how he could redeem his wife:
Slay the dragon and her soul shall be saved!
Into the flames he ventured with his shield and blade.

The King later heard from a local farmer,
That he had found bones and a soot-covered armor.
Since the knight's demise a wind of pain gales,
With an echo
of what happens when you tell adults fairytales.
