On A Mummy Poem by M Mostaqul Haque

On A Mummy

A sudden cease took place
In wandering aimlessly
A foreign romance in the heart
With my Egyptian friend
In Tahrir square at Cairo.

The gorgeous building snatched
My attention, I stared at
Egyptian museum gigantic
And entered in the ancient period like
An Egyptologist to a journey to the past
With a spirit lofty and robust
Who cares the tense in the excited sense?
The primitive flavor intoxicating enough
Time circled in the rhyme properly fit.

Ahmad and I were teachers
In Libya for many years stayed together
Now in the gigantic palace of
Ramses II, the pharaoh of
Nineteenth dynasty
Antiquities arrayed nicely
The king has nearly a hundred springs
Though looks nicely stout
Very recently he visited Paris with full military
Honours due to the king for treatment of
A fungal infection near nose.

Eyes were fixed to Pharaoh of the Exodus
Moses led the Israelites out from Egypt
For the land promised
To receive the Torah, Pentateuch
And reminds the mysterious water of the Nile.

The great emperor fought victorious
The battle of Kadesh only that day
What was the joy to inaugurate -
The new temple, great Abu Simbel
In Nubia accompanied his beloved
Queen Nefertari. Who can forget
The grand feast there.

Now, committed to the memory
The three thousand and three hundred
Winters can’t cool me
From the ancient inspiration as well.
