On A Nice And Cool January Evening Poem by Francis Duggan

On A Nice And Cool January Evening

On a nice and cool January evening of around twenty degrees
The cawing of the crows is carrying in the breeze
Though the sun in the gray sky is hidden away
For the prime of Summer quite a pleasant day

Though the brown coastal countryside seems in need of some rain
With such pleasant weather it does seem hard to complain
In coastal south west Victoria even in Summer's prime
There are nice cool days with a freshening breeze from time to time

The flute like songs of the birds who sing every day of the year
Of the black and white magpies always pleasant to hear
On their breeding Season they does sing at night
And so pleasant to hear them warbling in the moonlight

On the nearby Pacific the surf waves crash on the shore
The rumbling of the ocean is forever more
The life's breath from my mortal body may well soon be gone
But Nature is forever and is destined to live on

In coastal south west Victoria in January
Magpie larks in the paddocks do call out pee wee
The sun in the gray sky is hidden away
But it is a relief from the heat this breezy cool day.
